Note: The APA Publication Manual, 7 th Edition specifies different formatting conventions for student and professional papers (i.e., papers written for credit in a course and papers intended for scholarly publication). These differences mostly extend to the title page and running head.
Follow these guidelines to include page numbers in both student and professional APA Style papers: Use the page-numbering function of your word-processing program to insert page numbers. Insert page numbers in the top right corner. The page number should show on all pages.
Running head and page numbers One of the distinguishing features of an APA-formatted essay is the running head. This is a short version of your title—fewer than 50 characters—that appears in the header of your document, justified with the left margin.
How and When to Cite Page Numbers in APA Style Include page numbers for any citations in the text of your paper that include direct quotations or refer to a specific part of the work you are referencing. Direct quotations must include a page number as part of the citation.
Insert page numbers justified to the right-hand side of the APA format paper (do not put p. or pg. in front of the page numbers). For all pages of the paper, including the APA format title page, include the “TITLE OF YOUR PAPER” justified to the left in capital letters (i.e., the running head).
The student title page includes the paper title, author names (the byline), author affiliation, course number and name for which the paper is being submitted, instructor name, assignment due date, and page number, as shown in the following example. The American Psychological Association, also known as the APA, sets forth a standard or style of writing to which many disciplines, and especially scientific disciplines, conform. Numbering. When using the APA format, all pages must be numbered. Numbering in this writing style must start from 1 to whatever number the writer wishes. The recommended font is 12 pt. Times New Roman, but you are free to choose another one.
